DESTRUCTION OF SELF.

TEXTS ROMANS 6:1-6, 1Pet 4;1-3.

As true Christians we have to identify with Christ in His crucifixion, death and resurrection. Our old man must be crucified with Him and thus become powerless and dead. This old man or body of sin can also be called SELF. As a matter of necessity, we must experience the death of SELF in our lives after which we must resurrect with Jesus to walk in the newness of life. Rom.6;4.

SOME MANIFESTATIONS OF SELF
1. Eagerness and striving for recognition.
2. Desire for position and striving to get it by all means.
3. Eagerness to exalt oneself and claim superiority or assert authority.
4. Hunger for the praise of others.
5. Pride –due to –achievements, status, level of education, financial
power, beauty, spiritual attainment, e.t.c.
6. Selfishness-Inability show care or concern for others.
7. Unholy utterances and conversations.
8. Inability to use one’s resources for God.
9. Unwillingness to face the truth, admit fault ,apologize and forgive.
10. Willingness to retaliate.
11. Aptitude to cover sins.
12. Unwillingness to surrender one’s viewpoints.
13. Unwillingness to be under or serve someone.
14. Disobedience and rebellion-to God, His word, His servants, parents,
spouse, constituted authorities, etc.
15. Taking God’s glory unto oneself, e.g. -Herod Act.12;20-23

TAKE NOTE
1. Self is the archrival of the Spirit in man (especially in a man that wants to do the will of God). Gal.5:17. Until it dies the Spirit of God cannot have his way in any man’s life and such man can’t please God. Rom. 8:5-8.
2. Self is the greatest enemy man has – self-will, self-indulgence, selfishness, etc.
3. Self does not like part with the Christian and if it parts, it fights hard to come back .It dies hard .
4. The longer self lives, the more it grows and the more powerful it becomes.
5. The stronger it becomes in a man, the man becomes a SELF-FILLED man as opposed to a SPIRIT – FILLED man .See Acts 6:3-5, Eph5;18.
6. The main goal of self is to destroy man ultimately .See how self destroyed Lucifer who is called also Satan. Isaiah 14:12-16, Ezek.28:12-19. Self also destroyed the rich fool in Luke12:16-21.

WHO IS TAKING DOMINION IN YOUR LIFE, SELF OR THE HOLY SPIRIT? Destroy the self in you now before it destroys you. 1Peter4;1-3,Gal.5 ;24, 1C.9;27.Start now before it is too late .Stop all selfishly habits and behaviours now before it becomes powerful and dominates your life completely

STEPS TO CRUCIFIXION
1. Examine yourself critically 2Cor 13;5, Hag.1;5.Recognize the self in you.
2. Have a strong determination to get rid of the works of flesh Acts 11;23
3. Fill and renew your heart with the words of God .Rom 12;1-2,Ps119;11.
4. Deal with the flesh with fervent prayers Luke 22;40-44.
5. Abstain from all appearances of evil. I Tess5:22, Rom.13;14, I Cor6:18.
6. Surrender totally to God’s will in all areas James4:7,Rom 12;1-2
7. Be filled with the spirit of God. Gal 5:16-17
8. Make all the above steps a daily practice.
