Message 7
Living a Perfect Life Matthew 5: 48

The Dictionary defines the word ‘perfect’ as :
(1) Complete with everything;
(2) Without fault, excellent,
(3) exact, accurate;
(4) having reached the highest point in training, skill, etc.
In relation to our spiritual lives and obligations these definitions mean that
(1) We should be complete (with everything) in obedience to God’s commandments and duties to Him.
(2) We should be without fault in the way we serve and walk with God. We should live excellent lives.
(3) We should be exact and accurate in our spiritual duties towards God.
(4) We should reach the highest point in our attempts to serve God with holiness and righteousness.

The purpose of this study is to go against the opinion of many people who believe that attaining perfection in our Christian / Spiritual walk is impossible. Although it might be hard and also take time to attain this standard, God is requesting it from all of us who will serve Him and inherit eternal life in His kingdom.

SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES

1. God instructed Abraham to walk with Him and be perfect. Gen. 17:1. This is a call unto all who will walk with and serve God.
2. God instructed the Israelites to be perfect in serving Him. Deut.18:13. If this was demanded from people under the Old Testament, how much more those of us under the New Testament.
3. Solomon ordered the Israelites to walk in God’s statutes and keep commandments with a perfect heart. 1kings 8 vs 61.
4. Jesus told us to be perfect as our heavenly father is perfect. Matt. 5:48, Ps.18:30. This is telling us that we need to strive to become like God when it comes to perfection. This should be our ultimate goal and desire.
5. Paul exhorted the Corinthians Christians to be perfect in their spiritual walk. 2 Cor.13:11
6. The main reason why God gives spiritual leaders and special gifts to the Church is to perfect us and make us become like Christ in all things. Eph. 4:11-13.
7. Paul emphasized it that his purpose was to present his converts (Christians) to God in perfect spiritual state. Col.1:28. This should be the aim and prayer of every spiritual leader.
8. God has given us His Word (The Bible) to instruct and correct us so that we might become perfect in righteousness and be prepared unto all good works. 2 Tim. 3:16-17.

CHALLENGES FOR US

1. Let us firstly strive for holiness and righteousness in our daily walk with God.
2. Let us believe that perfection (in Godliness) is possible (attainable) and then strive for it.
3. We seriously need to contend for it because the devil will always try to hinder us and we should not allow him. Jam. 4:7
4. We must submit ourselves completely unto God as He daily instructs, corrects, breaks us down and remold us into the image of Christ.
5 We must admit our faults whenever we see them and then turn a new leaf.
6. We must regularly pray that God will enable us to reach the perfection stage

....He sent forth His word and His word healeth them.......You can be healed by the power of His word.....
